Best Algae Killer for Ponds - Algaecide Treatment

If you are searching how to kill algae in a pond, the Algae Control Pack the Best Solution available. The Algae Control Package is a professional grade algaecide and catalyst mixture for enhanced algae control in ponds. It is most effective for controlling filamentous algae and chara algae.

  • Fastest treatment option for filamentous algae, chara, nitella
  • Dissolves dead algae after treatment
  • Works on hard to kill algae species
  • Improves algaecide effectiveness in hard water

Pond Algaecide Coverage Area:

1 Algae Control Pack Treats 8,600 square feet (0.2 acre)

What makes this pond algae treatment different?

Some types of algae become resistant to algaecide treatments. Pairing the algaecide (Cutrine) with AquatiStick and Pondzilla creates a treatment solution that attacks the cell wall of the algae so that Cutrine can do its job effectively. This treatment is even effective on hard to kill chara algae.

While an algaecide is only capable of killing the algae cells, Pondzilla can speed up the breakdown process. When breakdown is expedited, surface scum disappears quickly and waste is reduced in a fraction of the time.

What is included in the Algae Control Pack?

  • 1 gallon of Cutrine Plus algaecide
  • 1 gallon of Pondzilla Pro
  • 32 ounce AquatiStick Surfactant
  • Mixture Instructions

Tank mixing these three treatments together provides faster, and more effective control. The Algae Control Treatment Pack is designed for natural fish ponds and farm ponds.

Identify your pond scum before treating

Besides algae, there are other surface scums like duckweed, watermeal, or biofilm. Identification is recommended to ensure that Algae Control Pack is an effective option.

How to Apply Algae Control for Ponds:

To treat 2,000 square foot surface area, mix 32 oz Cutrine Plus, 32 oz Pondzilla Pro, 4 oz Surfactant, and 2 gallons of water. Mix ingredients in a tank or backpack sprayer. Spray directly on algae mats. 3 gallon Sprayer sold here

FOR BEST RESULTS treat early on a sunny day.  Treat only half of the pond surface at a time, waiting 10 to 14 days before treating second half, unless there is adequate aeration installed.

What happens to algae after the algaecide application?

Begin to notice results within 24-48 hours after application of algaecide mixture. As string algae and/or chara die, it floats to the surface in large mats. Green algae turns yellow-brown when its dying. Within 10 days the mats lose buoyancy and drop to the bottom where the algae dissolve.

How long will this treatment control algae?

Both string algae and chara / muskgrass have no root systems. Algae blooms occur because nutrients are available in the water. To limit future growth, treat water with pond dye to block sunlight from reaching bottom growing algaeTreatments like Muck RemoverPond Cleanse, and Phosphate Eliminator reduce nutrients and bottom muck that act as fertilizer for new algae growth.

What is the best practice to prevent algae growth?

Algae blooms are a result of water quality that is out of balance. Excess nitrogen and phosphorus provide the fuel that algae needs to grow and multiply. When extra nutrients are available in the water, algae blooms occur. Sunlight exposure and alkalinity (carbonate hardness) of the water contribute to algae blooms.

Natural beneficial bacteria and phosphate binders can be used to help control pond algae by limiting the growing conditions. Aeration also aids in the reduction of algae blooms over time.

What causes algae to grow in ponds

Will an algae bloom hurt my fish?

Algae blooms can be harmful to aquatic life. Some particular species of algae and cyanobacteria produce toxins. Common algae blooms can be harmful in subtle ways.

During the day algae produces more oxygen than it consumes through photosynthesis and releases that oxygen into the water. Once the sun sets and photosynthesis stops, algae still uses oxygen but are not producing it. The result can be dangerously low oxygen levels which can lead to fish kills.

Severe algae blooms are also harmful to native plants in water that provide habitat for fish and other aquatic life. The floating algae actually shade the pond bottom and prevent growth of healthy pond vegetation.

How does Pondzilla help control pond algae?

Pondzilla is a catalyst for algae treatments that provides multiple benefits. It improves algaecide penetration into the algae to accelerate the chemical reactions that kill algae in a pond environment. Particularly in hard water (high alkalinity/carbonate hardness) it is critical to improve the penetration of copper based algaecides into the algae.

Pondzilla helps break down dead algae and fixes the nutrients that can be released back into the pond water. A blend of enzymes, fungi, stimulants, and bacteria break down the algae on a cellular level completing the pond algae control cycle. Pondzilla is the ultimate companion to the copper-based Cutrine Plus Algaecide.

Do not use Pond Algae Control Treatment Pack in ponds with koi, goldfish, or trout unless carbonate hardness is over 50 ppm.  Agricultural lime can be used to raise the carbonate hardness above 50 ppm for safe treatment.

No water use restrictions- water can be used after treatment for livestock, swimming, fishing or irrigation.
