Description

Cutrine Plus Granular Algaecide- our Best Selling String Algae Treatment

Cutrine Plus Granular is designed to control bottom growing string algae / filamentous algae, and chara. Cutrine is simple to use. The granular chelated copper product sinks to the bottom of the pond quickly.

EPA-approved for use in lakes and potable water reservoirs, farm fish ponds and fish hatcheries.

This copper-sulfate alternative provides longer-lasting algae control than copper sulfate with less impact to other, beneficial aquatic life.

How to use Cutrine Granular

Simply broadcast the recommended dosage across algae affected areas of the pond. For BEST results treat early on a clear sunny day. For best algae control the pond should be treated every 5 to 6 weeks.  In cases of recurring algae blooms, Cutrine may be use as a preventative treatment to get ahead of algae blooms.

Application rate for Cutrine Granular

For spot treatment apply 1.5 lb per 1000 sq ft

For large treatment areas treat 40 lb per surface acre

Cutrine Plus Granular Dosage Rates
2,000 sq ft 5,000 sq ft 10,000 sq ft 40,000 sq ft
Dosage Rate per Treatment 3 lb 7.5 lb 15 lb 60 lb

How often should Cutrine algaecide be applied?

On average, Cutrine manages algae for 4 to 6 weeks. Regular treatments provide the best algae management.

How does Cutrine Plus Granular Algaecide kill algae?

Cutrine Plus Granular Algaecide effectively eliminates algae by utilizing a powerful and targeted approach. This algaecide contains a unique blend of active ingredients that work to combat algae growth in aquatic environments. The granular form of Cutrine Plus is most effective on bottom growing algae.

The primary active ingredient in Cutrine Plus Granular Algaecide is copper ethanolamine complex. Copper is a well-known and trusted algaecide that has been used for centuries to control algae. It works by disrupting the cellular structure of algae, ultimately leading to its demise. The copper complex enhances the effectiveness of copper, ensuring a more potent and efficient treatment.

Overapplying simple forms of copper, such as copper sulfate, can easily cause a fish kill. Cutrine Plus lowers the risk by using a chelated copper complex that limits copper's impact on aquatic life.

Cutrine Granular Algaecide dissolves over time, releasing the copper complex into the water. This allows the algaecide to disperse evenly, reaching all areas where algae may be present. The copper ions then penetrate the algae cells, causing damage to their membranes and interfering with their metabolic processes.

Algae cells' ability to photosynthesize is hindered when they are damaged. This leads to a rapid decline in the algae population. Additionally, Cutrine Plus Granular Algaecide has a residual effect, meaning it continues to provide protection against future algae growth for an extended period. These granular algaecides can also be used as a preventative treatment.

One of the key advantages of Cutrine Plus Granular Algaecide is its selective action. While it effectively eliminates algae, it is safe for use in water bodies containing fish, plants, and other aquatic life. This makes it an ideal solution for controlling algae in ponds and lakes without causing harm to the ecosystem.

To ensure optimal results, it is important to follow the recommended dosage and application instructions provided by the manufacturer. Regular monitoring of the treated area is also advised to assess the effectiveness of the algaecide and make any necessary adjustments.

What are Chelated Copper Algaecides?

Chelated Copper Algaecide is a type of algaecide that is specifically formulated to control and eliminate algae growth in various water systems. It is commonly used in swimming pools, ponds, and other water bodies where algae growth can become a problem.

The term "chelated" refers to the process of binding copper ions with a chelating agent, such as EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid). This chelation process helps to stabilize the copper ions and prevent them from reacting with other chemicals or minerals in the water. By binding the copper ions, the chelating agent ensures that the copper remains in a soluble and bioavailable form, making it more effective in controlling algae growth.

Copper is a highly effective algaecide due to its ability to disrupt the photosynthesis process in algae cells. When chelated copper algaecide is added to the water, the copper ions are released and come into contact with the algae. The copper then penetrates the algae cells interfering with their ability to produce chlorophyll, which is essential for photosynthesis. As a result, the algae cells are unable to generate energy and eventually die off.

Chelated copper algaecide is known for its broad-spectrum activity, meaning it can effectively control a wide range of algae species, including green algae, blue-green algae, and mustard algae. It is also effective in both preventing and treating algae blooms, which can quickly overtake a water system and cause water quality issues.

One of the advantages of using chelated copper algaecide is its long-lasting effect. The chelation process helps to slow down the degradation of copper ions, allowing them to remain active in the water for an extended period. This means that a single application of chelated copper algaecide can provide long-term algae control, reducing the need for frequent treatments.

It is important to note that chelated copper-based algaecides should be used in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions. It is generally safe for humans and aquatic life when used as directed, excessive use can lead to copper accumulation in the water and sediments. Accumulated free copper can be harmful to fish and other aquatic organisms.
