Blue Stone Crystals Copper Sulfate for Ponds
- Use to kill all forms of algae
- Multiple treatment methods
Copper sulfate is used to kill visible algae within ponds.
Active ingredient: Copper Sulfate Pentahydrate* 99.0%
*Metallic Copper Equivalent: 25%
3 Application Methods For Copper Sulfate
- Broadcast copper granules across surface
- Drag burlap full of copper sulfate crystals behind boat
- Dissolve crystals in water and spray algae mats
General treatment rates:
Apply up to 2.6 lb of copper sulfate crystals PER ACRE FOOT to control most filamentous and planktonic species. Apply 3.9-5.3 lb PER ACRE FOOT to control chara and nitella. See product label for additional application details.
Determine acre-foot by multiplying surface acres by average depth in feet
Ex: 0.5 acre pond, 6 foot average depth 0.5x6= 3 acre-feet
To use copper sulfate effectively in ponds, you can follow these general guidelines:
Determine the Amount Needed: Calculate the amount of copper sulfate required based on the size of your pond and the concentration needed to treat algae effectively. It's essential to follow the manufacturer's instructions for the correct dosage.
Safety Precautions: Wear protective gear like gloves and goggles when handling copper sulfate to prevent skin and eye irritation. Keep pets and children away from treated areas.
Remember, it's crucial to follow the specific instructions provided by the product manufacturer for the best results and to minimize any potential harm to the pond ecosystem.
Copper sulfate can be harmful to fish if not used properly. It is essential to follow the manufacturer's instructions carefully to ensure the safety of fish in the pond. Overdosing copper sulfate can lead to fish toxicity and even death. It's crucial to use the recommended dosage and monitor the fish and pond ecosystem closely after treatment.
Copper sulfate and chelated copper are both used in pond treatments, but they have different properties. Copper sulfate is a common algaecide that can kill algae in ponds, while chelated copper is a more stable form of copper that is less toxic to fish and other aquatic life. Chelated copper is often preferred for long-term algae control as it stays active in the water for a longer period without causing harm to the pond ecosystem.
**DO NOT use in bodies of water that include Koi, Goldfish, Trout, or Grass Carp. These types of fish are sensitive to copper sulfate products.
